Goals versus Focus
I watched and listened to the commentators at the South Africa vs Australia test match recently and they were speaking on the challenges that both teams faced on the final days play. To win, the batting side on the last day had to get 400 plus runs, and the bowling side had to take the 10 wickets. The obvious goal for both sides is to win the game, the focus and concentration for the players is not on the goal itself but on doing the little things well and taking every chance that contributes to winning. It is the same in business we may set our goal but unless the focus is on doing the little things consistently well, winning seems just out of reach.
